Our Story
Mac J Adamson Having always held a deep love and passion for children,
health, and nature, I walked away from my twenty-five year professional career in the corporate world to pursue my dream of working with children. As an avid
jogger and marathon runner, my dream has always been to help children understand the importance of health in
realizing their dreams. During my life I have experienced both excellent health and debilitating injuries and
sickness and found that the state of my health had a direct effect on my ability to create the life I wanted to
lead. As I worked with youth organizations over the past twenty years, I have become increasingly concerned over the state of our children’s health and the
lack of effective programs for reversing this alarming trend.
My journey from corporate America to realizing my
dream of improving the lives of children has been both challenging and rewarding as I followed my heart to reinvent who I am. My educational background and
corporate training instilled in me the understanding that to change any paradigm requires a total commitment from
all participants and the necessary resources to implement the desired change.
As I began to develop and implement healthy lifestyle
programs for children, I became convinced that what was required to address the health epidemic they face was a coalition of passionate social entrepreneurs with
diverse backgrounds who can provide effective self-funding programs that create permanent lifestyle changes in individuals and organizations. The most
rewarding part of my journey has been to meet other passionate individuals with a common vision and love for children who have joined us with their talents to create
our coalition.
After leaving the corporate world, my life was forever
changed when I found my life partner who shared the same passion for health and vision of a better world for our children. We have united our common passion to
create the Kids4FitKids Foundation and dedicated our life work to building a coalition of individuals, businesses, communities and schools whose mission is to make
children our first priority and to provide solutions and promote programs that will create the future our children deserve.
Jan Myrick Several years ago when I was denied health insurance
because of an old knee injury, I became passionate about learning everything I could about preventing disease. What I learned was very disturbing. I felt that I
had been wearing blinders as far as health was concerned. The dangers from fast and processed foods, soil depletion and genetically altered foods, just to name
a few, are all around us, but we are so oddly blind to these threats to our lives and the lives of our children.
These dangers seem not to be a priority in the medical establishment – they’re too swamped treating the result of the way we choose to live. So we and our neighbors
follow the status quo. We have chosen not to see the facts – the writing on the wall.
It is now evident that one out of every two children will
face cancer in their lifetime. It has been said that we may be the first generation in which our children may die
before we do. Diseases related to diet are the leading causes of death and disability. American children are
beginning to exhibit metabolic abnormalities formerly seen only in adults, constituting a national scandal. We
put so much emphasis on getting the best jobs, the right neighborhood and schools, the best health insurance, doctor, etc. and not enough emphasis on what will make
a huge difference in their lives - breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I have experienced in my own family the vital role that
health plays in our lives. My father died at age 52 of a heart attack and my husband at age 52 of suicide. I
have dedicated my resources and talents to help children who are suffering with depression, Bi-polar disorder, autism and learning disabilities, such as ADD and
ADHD. I am determined to prevent children’s lives from being cut short by illness and disease and that the same health issues that cut short my father’s and
husband’s lives will not diminish the lives of my children – they deserve more.
When I was a young and overwhelmed mother, I remember praying for a magic pill that included
everything needed to keep my children healthy so I wouldn’t have to worry so much about what they were eating. Now twenty years later, I have an answer to my
prayer in the Kids4FitKids Foundation nutrition programs. After meeting Mac and discovering our common passion for children, we knew that we could
not stand idly by and not use our knowledge to make a difference in our own and other children’s lives. Our
mission is to help all children reach their potential through understanding that good health is the foundation to leading productive, meaningful lives.
Come join us in this quest to make the world a healthier
place for our children and assure them the future they deserve. Where do we begin? We begin with the choices that we make everyday, from the way we feed
our children to how we care for our own health. As we consciously change ourselves, we become less the victims of the world as it is and more the creators of a
vision for a better world.
We can do no less – for in our children lies our hope and the future of the world.
